  • One piece per color on dimensionally stable base sheet film. All film must be non-bleed film having 1/8" gutter all around, with the exception of 5x7-1/4, 7- 1/4x9-7/8 and 8-3/8x10-7/8 formats which are bleed inserts.

  • For film sizes up to and including 20 x 24, a minimum thickness of .004" must be used. Over 20 x 24 film size, .007" must be used. No intermixing of thickness is allowed.

  • Minimum image density of 3.0 (or above) and a maximum background (clear area) density of 0.10 as measured on a transmission densitometer.

  • Opaquing must be done on the base or non-emulsion side of the films. All films must be free from dirt, dust specks, or broken type.

  • Negatives must have been contacted to assure a hard dot image. Soft dot films are not acceptable. Please allow for a minimum dot gain of 14% on C2S papers and a minimum of 20% dot gain on high bulk papers.

  • All final film provided must be complete without corrections and/or modifications.

  • No etching or hand correction should be made on the furnished negatives meant for plating.

  • Films must have identification of color, customer, and code or lot number.

  • Films must be in exact register with one another and contain (4) point "line" register marks per page. Register marks should be a minimum of 1/4" long, should not exceed .003" in weight, and be located 1/2" outside of the image area and centered top, bottom, right and left.

If total density exceeds 300% we reserve the right to review the subject matter. Our production department will be happy to recommend color density limits to be used on your furnished films based on the type of stock your project is printing on.

  • Screening rulings should be selected to take maximum advantage of the production characteristics of the paper. We recommend the following screen rulings:

120 line - For surface sized ground-woods (High Bulk).

133 line - For blade coated or matte finished free sheets, pigmented or wash coated free sheets. (45# C2S, #5)

150 line - For premium coated quality gloss stocks.

PROOFS:

All furnished four-color negatives should be accompanied by a chromalin or color key that identifies customer, project, and code or lot number. These proofs must conform to the following requirements:

  • Paper should be the same grade and basis weight as the actual production run. We will be happy to supply imposition layouts, ink and paper for your press proofs.

  • Proofs must be pulled to the same inking level. We recommend the same (to 5% heavier than) the furnished films.

  • All proofing should be four-color wet trapped. Inking progression is as follows:
